oh haiti

yep. it's true.
I leave Australia again July 8th for Port-a-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

Most of you would be well aware of the devastating effects of the earthquake in Haiti. Even before the earthquake Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Thousands and thousand died, struggling families lost loved ones, their homes, possessions, had to move into dangerous tent cities. Then came the cholera outbreak not to mention the long term corrupt governmental issues, child slavery, youth and child prostitution to name a few.

so what am I doing there?
At the beginning of the trip I will be joining a ‘Water for Life’ team, assisting in teaching 70+ students about water purification, water-catchment tanks and the importance of clean sanititation. After that we will accompany the students into the mountains of Haiti aiding them in their water projects. The rest of my time in Haiti will be spent doing additional water projects for a local orphanage.

Next comes an exciting new project you can be involved in too. My beautiful friend Kim Turner and the Sunshine Coast Brown Owls Meet Up – a local craft crew. It was Kim’s wonderful idea to sew dresses out of pillowcases to take with me to Haiti. Read all about the project here

If you live in the sunny coast area and are keen to help please let me know. Even if you just have a few pillowcases (not too thin) to give. Hopefully trying to get my hands on a stack of toothbrushes as well. We would love to see this orphanage eventually become completely sustainable.

why?
the water projects are pretty self-explanatory. i believe its a no-brainer that everybody has a right to clean water
I am so pumped about these little pillowcase dresses is the chance for the girls at this orphanage to feel like princess’.  We are also brainstorming what we can make for the boys. Any ideas? When a previous team was in Haiti they discovered the heart breaking news that the care-taker of this orphanage has been molesting the children. Steps have been taken to remove him but this doesn’t change their lives. And unfortunally? This is one of many similair stories in this country.

you wanna be involved?
at the top of my blog is a 'donate' button. there is information there regarding our water projects which obviously need funding to be completed. 100% of the monies you donate will be going to the water projects.

I believe change comes when we work together.

i am soOOooOOOoooOOOOO excited about this trip. can't wait to share more with you all.
thanks for your support. interest. encouragement. and prayers.
